Meet Ringo, Adopted May 2006
Every year, the Owen Sound Animal Shelter holds a calendar contest to raise funds for the needy animals. There’s a $10 entry fee, and it’s $1 to vote for your favorite furry friends. The top 13 will be given spots in the calendar.
This year, I’ve entered my little girl, Ringo! We had another kitty in mind when we went to the shelter back in 2006, but Ringo jumped on Justin and said “This one’s mine! I’m going home with him!” It was love at first… climb. At the time, we also thought Ringo was a little boy (hence the name). You can imagine our surprise when we got a phone call from the vet during “his” neutering appointment! She’s grown up to be a fiercely independent, yet loyal and loving friend.
Please visit OSAS’s website and vote for your favorite calendar pictures! If you’re blown away by the happy pet pictures that you see, consider choosing your next pet from the shelter. They make wonderful friends. I would know, I live with three of them!

Four Paws, the company that makes the dog toy that caused Chai’s injuries has RECALLED the product!

I found this heartbreaking story through the Owen Sound Animal Shelter’s website, and have decided to spread the word. I’m not usually one to slam another company, however in this case, I believe that the word needs to be spread in order to prevent other animals from being injured.
Please read Chai’s Story in full, if you can stomach it. This poor dog was playing with a toy manufactured by Four Paws Inc, the pimple ball with bell. (Item #20227-001, UPC Code 0 4566320227 9). Here is what happened in his owner’s words:
[...] While chewing on the toy, a vacuum was created and it effectively sucked his tongue into the hole in the ball. From speaking with my vet, this likely occurred because there is not a second hole in the ball preventing the vacuum effect from happening. I became aware of this when Chai approached a friend at my home whimpering with the ball in his mouth. She tried unsuccessfully to remove the ball but the tongue had swollen and could not be released [...]
Chai has now had his tongue amputated, and is in constant pain. He and his brave owners have to work together to teach Chai how to eat and drink again, and live a normal life together.
They are calling for an international boycott of all Four Paws products until this product is recalled.
Please copy/paste the following into the body of your email in support of this boycott and send it to the address below to let Allen Simon the CEO of four paws know your stand;
Mr. Allen Simon,
I am in support of a boycott of your company until you recall the product pimple ball with bell,
as it is designed is such a way that irreparable damage can be caused by its use.
