A Few Updates
What’s been happening at Green Book headquarters?
Folks, the sun is shining on Grey Bruce once again! It has been a very long few weeks here with snow storms, icy roads, wind storms and sub zero temperatures. Of course, we all know that it’ll be back before long, but I’m sure you’ll all agree, it sure was nice to wake up to sunshine this morning.
Mother Nature’s way of saying “keep warm!”
Yesterday’s wind storm has done a number on our back yard, two big old trees are down and I’m thanking my lucky stars that they fell away from the house! Our plan is to have them harvested for fire wood so that we can rely less on the furnace. This year’s early winter has put quite a strain on our supply. This extra bit of firewood will mean that we can burn wood through the colder days without worrying about running out by the end of winter!
Welcoming new friends
The newest member of our little family arrived a couple of weeks ago: Pal, a purebred golden retriever, flew here from British Columbia on December 11th. This guy has some special requirements, so he couldn’t have gone to just any old home. You see, due to allergies, Pal is basically a vegetarian, so regular dog food and treats are no good for him! We have to be extra diligent while going for walks, since so many kind-hearted people are ready with a treat. Pal’s favorite so far is Broccoli!
Christmas Fun
It was definitely a white Christmas in Grey Bruce this year! Everybody we know was out of town, so we had a quiet little Christmas to ourselves. For dinner, we enjoyed farm fresh eggs, local garlic sausage (from Walkerton Meat Market), and home made trifle for desert. The Green Gift highlight of the year came from my mom: an Umbra Pulp Bulletin Board.
Designed by: Adin Mumma “A bulletin board that takes re-using to the next step. Made from stacked reprocessed paper and recyclable paper board frame. Holds pins or notes.”

Changing the focus, ever so slightly
For the coming new year, I’m planning on expanding the blogging aspect of GreenBook. While trying to come up with green blog post ideas, I seem to keep going back to animals. I’ve got lots and lots of great eco-friendly tips for pets, stories about saving animals, ways to deal with wild critters, and general love of all things living. In trying to come up with more diverse ideas, I had another thought; blog about what you love! So, henceforth, GreenBook’s focus is on Eco-friendly AND Animal friendly living in Grey Bruce.
I’ve got lots of exciting things to write about for 2009, including tomorrow’s blog post: GreenBook’s New Year’s Resolutions, and a look back on 2008!
